I am building a boat to learn to sail in. The boat's design is called a Puddle Duck Racer. You can find the specs at www.shortypen.com. I am the 5th person to build such a boat and so get Hull No. 5.
Five is the "magic number" for many of the indigenous people of the Great Northwest, including the people who spoke Chinook Jargon. They used five like we use three - the Holy Trinity, Three Strikes and Yer Out, Three Stooges, you get the idea. Since I got a magic number, I figured I'd better give the boat a name to reflect that. "hehtheht" is the Chinook word for 'duck" Listen to some ducks talk for a bit and you'll see why. "Cultus" means "small," which the Puddle Duck Racer certainly is. "Cultus" can also mean "of little value" or "worthless" and can conceivably be stretched to mean "trash" or "junk." Since I plan on using a sail based on a Chinese Junk, I figured "Cultus Hehtheht" would be a good name. |
